Our Family And Who We Are
Mom & Dad
Joel & Aurora Gutierrez were the parents of 5 children. Among many things including a strong and strict hand they raised us to be gentle and compassionate for all mankind. Mom & Dad both came from the country side, or "Rancho" , Mom was born in La Grulla, TX where her decendants were the original founders of that small border town next to the Rio Grande River. Dad was born in Agua Leguas, NL, MEXICO. Where he was one of 13 children born in this 40 Acre ranch. When their children were small, Dad would take them out swimming in Falcon Lake and on occassion in the Rio Grande River too. Of course there were also those trips to South Padre Island. Both Mom & Dad learned from a very young age how to raise animals and in turn, also taught their children the value of the life of a small animal or pet.
Everyone that came to visit in their home would refer to them as Mom & Dad, or on occassion someone would come over in need of help. They would stop by and talk to "Don Joel". He was never one to turn people in distress away, especially when they needed some of his help.
Mom worked in the school cafeteria of the South Texas High School, this was a school that was used for delinquent children, back in the day. On weekends the kids attending the school would get a pass to go home and yet their parents didn't or couldn't accomodate them, so Mom would bring them home with her. The house was always full of life, laughter and above all Love for each other and Love for God. 'I believe my parents instilled good work ethics in all their children, I for one am a prime example. I am self efficient and always work several jobs at a time. I Really Enjoy Doing What I Do", says Mercy Flores, their eldest child. Mercy was inspired to open, Respite Care Services OfTexas, after the death of her younger broth "Frank (Frankie) Flores. aka Mr. Flores."
Mr. Flores, as he was known among his Friends, Doctors, Nurses, Staff, Clients, Priests, Congressmen and Congresswomen, Senators, Lobbyist and even his own Family. Frank was the most fun person you could ever have known, he'd always say, "I work hard so I can play harder", and that he did, he was truly ahead of his own time and he was one to live for the moment. He'd pave the streets to personally bring in all his clients at his and Mrs. Flores's Adult Day Cares' Known as, My Golden Years. He was a pioneer of the Adult Day Cares'. He was also the owner of Doctors Care Home Health, and worked even harder to help as many clients as he possibly could with a demonstration that he truly believed would help the Adult Day Care's by providing services to Medicare Patients. Yes, he wanted everyone to know that Medicare beneficieries would benefit from attending an Adult Day are. Sadly this man whom was full of life and shared his love and even his wealth with everyone, and I mean everyone that he knew passed away, but he left behind a long list of memories that were filled with joy so much joy, you couldn't talk about him without it bringing a smile to your face.
May he (Frankie) , Mom (Aurorita) and Dad (Don Joel), all Rest In Peace.
